A whopping 423,000 New Nissan trucks and cars were built on the Tyne and Wear in 2010, the first company in the UK to break the 400,000 in a year mark. The Sunderland plant is home to the extremely popular Qashqai model which has fast become one of Britain's much loved car's with over 1 million units rolling off the line since 2006.
The record may only last a few years as well with the new Nissan Leaf joining the list of production cars at the Sunderland plant in the very near future. Nissan have high hopes for the environmentally friendly electric vehicle with sales continually improving throughout the year.
The Sunderland factory has not also proved to be a great piece of business for Nissan but also to the local area as well with over 12,000 jobs having been created since its doors opened in 1986.
