Motorcyclist dies in helmet law protest!

This story would have fitted nicely as a lyric in the classic Alanis Morissette song 'Ironic'.

A motorcyclist named as Philip Contos has crashed and died in America whilst taking part in an anti mandatory helmet law rally. Police have reported that had Philip been wearing a helmet he would have survived.

Contos lost control of the 1983 Harley Davidson, flipped over the handlebars and cracked his head on the pavement, later passing away in hospital. He was supporting the American Bikers Aimed Towards Education (ABATE) who rally every year against mandatory helmet laws as well as supporting instating a motorcycle awareness section being added to the US driving permit exam.

Now I for one consider motorcycles extremely dangerous and not to wear a crash helmet is just incomprehensible, I would rather drive my nans new Honda CR-V than be seen on a two wheel death trap.

Mind you I do enjoy the MotoGP and this past weekend at the Gran Premio D'Italia saw a cracking meeting race with Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo taking the chequered flag followed closely by Repsol Honda pairing Andrea Dovizioso and Casey Stoner. This result has seen Stoner's lead cut to just 19 points after 8 races with the riders meeting next in Germany at the Sachsenring on the 17th of July.
